Philosophy
Becoming Stronger
and more powerful is critical to Hockey success, especially as one
attempts to move up from level to level. Being Stronger and more
powerful contributes to skating faster and more powerful, dynamic
balance, shooting and checking as well as injury prevention. Remember….improving
hockey performance is not the same as general fitness and general
strength. Players of all abilities must focus on other components
like explosiveness, quickness, agility, speed, lateral movement,
balance, reaction skills and technical skills and tactics. The Proper
Hockey Strength & Power training is the foundation that these
important attributes are built from and are the basis for the programs
designed at the Velocity Hockey Center.
ON ICE INSTRUCTION:
OFF - ICE STRENGTH
& CONDITIONING INSTRUCTION:
The highly intensive
Strength and Conditioning Program is designed to help increase the
players skating performance. The players will be put through a variety
of quickness/agility exercises as well as some power core strength
methods that will help build the adequate muscles needed to perform
the on ice drills. Students will also be training on the NEW! Acceleration
MN Skating Treadmill in the Velocity Hockey Center. The continual
practice of the skating motions on the Skating Treadmill will help
build “Muscle Memory” to therefore adequately perform
the motions on the ice at a much higher and powerful tempo.
** Students
will do the On and Off Ice Training Program on the same days. They
will go through their on ice instruction then go directly to the
dryland area.
The Velocity
Hockey Center and it’s Expert Staff have helped hundreds of
Professional and Amateur hockey players reach their goals. The players
who have trained with the coaches at Velocity have gone on to successfully
compete at the Youth, High School, Junior, College, Professional
Levels and have gone on to compete in events such as the State High
School Tournament, World Championships, Frozen Four, Olympics and
the Stanley Cup.
